How can the findings from the Equal-Life project be put into practice? What can our approach and methods teach other researchers and professionals in mental health care, urban planning, and child care? To answer these questions, the Equal-Life project team set out to share its findings and toolbox through a series of training sessions. The goal was to equip a wide range of professionals—those working in environments where children eat, sleep, learn, and play—with practical tools and insights they can use in their own work.
The training team has organized more than fifteen sessions, both as online webinars and in-person workshops, in countries including Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Sweden, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Egypt. To make sure the knowledge was accessible, these trainings were offered in several languages, including Dutch, English, German, and Italian. This allowed participants to fully engage and share their own experiences in the language they felt most comfortable with.
Each session followed a similar structure: starting with an introduction to the aims and scope of the Equal-Life project, followed by a presentation of key concepts and the latest findings. Next, participants took part in interactive discussions, exploring real-life cases where Equal-Life’s insights could be applied. Attendees were also encouraged to bring their own examples, leading to lively discussions about challenges they face in their daily work. Sessions ended with a demonstration of the Equal-Life toolbox, giving participants hands-on experience with the tools developed through the project.
The result? Many meaningful exchanges between the Equal-Life team and the professionals who can use the toolbox in their daily work. We successfully reached public health professionals, urban planners, educators, researchers, and policy makers at local and regional levels, as well as within networks like WHO’s ‘Healthy Cities’ and Eurocities. All of these groups share the goal of improving children’s environments and health outcomes.
